Frank Turner - The Way I Tend To Be

L-o-l-a Lola…

So I was massively sleep-deprived. Then I was ill. There were no actual broken bones but I did cough hard enough to pull muscles. Then I was massively sleep-deprived again. Then I looked up and two months had passed since I blogged or had an online presence.

In between trips to the crossroads in desperate search for someone willing to trade sleep for my soul (I had no luck) and coughing I did some online reading while I was ill. As a result I have a few comments.

For those of you that write Avengers fanfic (oh don’t even) Brooklyn is not some small town Steve (Rogers) leaves to go to the big city of New York. Brooklyn IS in New York City. New York City is divided into five boroughs (think of them as ginormous neighborhoods). Brooklyn has the most people (around 2.5 million) and nearly the most area.  As always writers, Google is your research friend.

Also, for the serious news bloggers out there – please don’t cite The Onion as a serious news source…just - please – don’t.

The new preview trailer for Shield is out.  I love that Coulson named his car.

You wanna hear about the deal I’m making…

Kit’s Awesome Vid of the Day

Iron Man 3 Trailer

I am going to watch this over and over because it is so very awesome and with the hope it will help sooth the pain of the Cards losing last night.

Right on down the line…

Wow Monday is really, really bright.

Moved Kahuna’s amp out of the closet and into my office. Looks cool and is much easier to get at when he wants to play, but the best part is now I have more room in my closet for boots!

Actually it is more like now I have room in the closet to actually put my boots inside. It isn’t that I have so many boots, it’s that everything (non-boot related) in the apartment we don’t have space for winds up in our closet. We went so many years without closets that I think we sort of view ours as a spare room, instead of the place you hang your clothes.

Credit for finding the featured vid goes to Cassie Taylor. She was tweeting the vids she was watching this morning and she shared Three Stripes on a Cadillac by her dad, Otis Taylor.

(If you pull the blog on a feed you can check out the video here)

Okay, so I found this:

Please tell me Kate is wearing thigh-high boots because that would be so awesome…

Then I died of squee overload.

I want to ride my bicycle…

I felt really blah yesterday so Scooter and I spent the day playing Hearthfire, the new DLC for Skyrim. We mined ore, planted herbs and forged too many nails to count. At the end of the day we both felt better and we had a shiny new in-game house, a moose named Barnaby and a couple of chickens. Yes, chickens.

Check out my full review of Hearthfire over on GamingHUD.

New music out this month from Ryan Bingham, Patterson Hood, Animal Collective, the Avett Brothers, The Killers and lots more. I have lots of new music for the jukebox and a few reviews if Scooter will cooperate.

There are still a few tickets left for the StageIt – Steve Carlson concert later today.

Finally, rock on little Freddie bird.

Rovio and Angry Birds are proud supporters of the Mercury Phoenix Trust and Freddie For A Day on September 5th!”

We’ll be dancin’ on the moon…

I am awake! During the day!

Scooter has returned to sleeping at night and I am no longer a zombie! Goodbye zombiedom!

So I found this meme where you take the color of pants you are wearing and pair it (sorry) with the last thing you ate to get your ultimate band name.  Mine was Blue Greek Yogurt which screams (to me at least) ‘Hi, I’m a  70′s prog band’. Sadly, all my ‘answer the meme, get your band name’ things end up sounding like a prog band.

All new tracks up in the sidebar jukebox today with songs from American Aquarium, Viv and the Revival, Angie Atkinson, The Baron Sisters and Joanne Shaw Taylor.

For anyone pulling the blog on feed – the featured vid today is Break My Heart Tonight by the Debonzo Brothers. Check out the ninebullets.net cool review of their new album, One Damn Heart.

Bethesda is releasing a new DLC for Skyrim called Hearthfire.

I’m not really interested in snagging a hubby or hubby-ette to keep in the house, nor will I be adopting any urchins – but - I am stoked to build a house and garden and a Bard room where I will install my Bard and he or she can sing endless repetitions of the same TWO songs while I am away on grand adventures.

(Hmm..unless the urchins have minion potential. I could use a few minions.)

- Kit

I’ll be wonderful super fantastic coolness remarkable…

Stuff…

Still doing the ‘up all night – sleep all day thing’ with Scooter. On the plus side she has finally embraced the whole ‘yeah for bathrooms’ concept and that is a relief but the living large all night thing is really rough. I feel kind of like a zombie

Ordered all the things we need from Manic Panic to give the ‘Bit shocking blue hair before school starts.

(Yeah, yeah I know – but she only gets to be 17 with electric blue hair once in her life so…bring it on.)

We also picked up most of the non-counter culture school supplies she needs and her schedule so we are pretty much ready for school.

On to music – things:

Check out the album cover for Tomorrowland, the upcoming release from Ryan Bingham.

If you preorder a copy on August 28, 2012 Ryan will send you a signed copy.

New video from Lee Bains III and the Glory FiresAin’t No Stranger

Also have a new video from The SightsLeft Over Right

The Week in Music…Blogs – July 21 to July 27, 2012

I pretend this is moment Jimmy read my tweet.

Last night I watched the StageIt concert with Jimmy Buffett and it was so very cool.

The StageIt crew (along with Evan Lowenstein) set up in Jimmy’s dressing room at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Mike Utley hung out and Matt Hoggatt showed up to sing one of his songs.

Jimmy sang Tin Cup Chalice and Boat Drinks. He also read tweets aloud as they went by and now everyone watching knows I was eating soup right before the show.

( I didn’t know Jimmy would see the pre-show tweets or I would have, you know, sent something clever or cool…or just not weird)

The show was a lot of fun and Jimmy raised over 20,000 for charity. Yea!

In the world of music blogs -

Emma Warren from Music and Words by Emma Warren described the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics and went over a good bit of the music played for the event.

Eddie Baranak from The Sights is keeping a tour diary.  His latest entry has quite a few photos and general ‘on the road’ stuff.

American Blues Scene interviewed Big Llou Johnson on his new album, They Call Me Big Llou, his acting, B.B. King, the Just Blues Music Awards and his radio and announcing work. The entire interview is available to steam from the site as a podcast.

Autopsy IV from ninebullets.net asks the readers to Gimme Your Top 5 Of The First Half Of 2012 and also lists his choices.

Rachel from Adobe and Teardrops interviewed singer/songwriter Hannah Aldridge on her music, her family and her new EP, Wanderer. Rachel also streamed two tracks from the EP.

I am going to finish up with the new Gaslight Anthem vid:

Cause my baby done run off to Tampa Bay…

My office needs a door…that can be locked…and then barred with a big railroad tie.

Well I got nine bullets…

My ninebullets radio sticker came in the mail today!!!

I haven’t put it up anywhere permanently since I was going to stick it on my gig bag but decided I want it in the office instead. Now if they would just make a ninebullets radio coffee cup.

I have shiny new Patterson Hood up in the sidebar jukebox today!

Check out “Come Back Little Star” a preview track from his upcoming album Heat Lightning Rumbles in the Distance. I love the piano on this track – it is so very pretty. You can download your own copy from the link below -

I got my key for the City of Steam preview yesterday so I will be MMO’ing this weekend.

Huh, I ran out of exclamation points. Anyway…the plan is to game test City of Steam and finish my Dawnguard review. Possibly also toss the girls in the pool if the weather will cooperate.

This is Carol – her interests include pounding evil into a bloody pulp, flying (in and out of jets) and coffee…

I picked up the new Captain Marvel # 1 this morning. The Marvel Captain Marvel with Carol Danvers, not the DC Captain Marvel.

I love the new costume. The hair – the gloves – the everything.

(And seriously dudes, it isn’t like there is a shortage of thigh-high boots in the comic ‘verse. Trust me, you all will survive the trama of one super chick in pants.)

You can pick up Captain Marvel #1 at your local comic shop or order it online. I picked my copy up and pre-ordered the next three issues over on Things From Another World.

music reviews
  • Blurred…
    February 12, 2013 | 4:06 pm

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]

  • Arc & Stones…
    February 11, 2013 | 4:53 am

Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass).  I had [...]

  • Telegraph Taboo…
    January 21, 2013 | 8:45 am

So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
