video games
Get over here and play a video game…
Cool stuff in my email…
From the Smithsonian American Art Museum:
The Art of Video Games exhibition opens in less than two months (on March 16, 2012), so things are getting a little hectic around the museum and I have a lot to share.
Early in January, the exhibits team did a round of testing for the 5 “playable” games that will be in the exhibition (Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, The Secret of Monkey Island, Myst, and Flower). The most challenging aspect of these games is that we are running them through original hardware and/or operating systems…
…Fabrication is well underway for the 20 “genre kiosks” that will showcase 80 video games through screen captures and video footage. These are the 80 games that won the public vote in 2011. We were very excited to see how these were coming along!
You can see more photos of the game testing and kiosk fabrication on Flickr. We’ll continue to add images as we get closer to the opening – including photos of installation in the galleries (I can’t wait!)

If you wear those golden earrings…
If I could get Scooter to take a nap I would go veg on the couch and watch Iron Man…again. It’s that kind of a day.
OMG! Captain America earrings! I must have a pair of these. Heather at H-chan Clothing on Etsy also has other Avenger and X-men earrings as well as little sumo domo-kun ones.
There is still time to cast a vote (or many votes) for Viv and the Revival in the ESPN Who’s Next in music promotion. You can continue to vote until Thursday.
I have a new review up on GamingHUD for Margaritaville Online.
So I had moved my office to the sunroom but it was just too noisy to work there so I have moved it back to my coffee bar the breakfast room. And when I say I moved, of course mean Kahuna moved all the heavy furniture from room to room and I followed along behind with you know…a book or a CD. Now I can stare at my coffee pot when I am deep in thought.
Ummm…Coffee.

Action is his reward…
I can always tell it has been a slow week on the blog when I only have a couple of comments in the spam folder.
For the Skyrim obsessed among you - Hurstwic has Viking Age clothing. I love the idea of Vikings in footie pajamas and stirrup pants. Sadly, I had to Google the correct spelling of ‘footie’.
I have a new-ish article on Skyrim up over at GamingHud. We have a lot of new Skyrim content, a game review and article from our newbie author Eric Walsh, a review from Faye, lots of pretty pictures of Batman and a ‘state of the website’ message from the Boss.
Want a Joe Bonamassa bobblehead for Christmas? Probably too late to ship before the holiday but while you wait, download a free copy of Joe singing Merry Christmas, Baby.
Scooter is wearing a blanket as a cape and has proclaimed herself a SuperHero. When I asked what her super power was she said, “Loud Noise”.
I know, I know. I am rambling all over the place but it has been a very busy week and I struggle to maintain focus. Maybe everything will slow down this weekend and after. Plus I need to go make the resident superhero a peanut butter triangle. Apparently she needs to ‘recharge’ her powers.
Anyway, have some Ramones.

Southward as you go…
So Rockstar Games wants to sell me and all of you a 10″ Max Payne doll…Okay, okay, they call it a statue. It is part of the Max Payne 3 Special Edition release.
We are headed to Alabama this afternoon to spend the week of Thanksgiving with family. For the Eagles fans among you I have mentioned before that Kahuna’s aunt and uncle live on the actual Seven Bridges Road. We will be staying at our old house and hoping the nice weather holds so we don’t freeze while we are there.
Steve Carlson is doing another StageIt concert this Sunday, November 27th. At present the time is 5pm EST so I am not whether I can go or not. It depends on when we get in from the trip. I’ll stick the info in the top box a little later today.
Ninebullets.net premiered the new Have Gun Will Travel video, Thirteen Miles to Empty, on their website a few days ago. So I snagged it. Mergers and Acquisitions is one of about five new releases I am taking with me on the trip.
If Fogo de Chao really wanted me to eat at their restaurant they would build one in Raleigh.
I will get through all the rest of the email and such today and watch the vid Shoreacres from The Task at Hand sent me. After I have another cup of coffee…and pack.

Feel my thorns, Darkspawn!
After much hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth (okay, maybe there was no hand-wringing…how do you wring your hands?) I have resolved my November 11, 2011 dilemma. I will listen to the Coronas’ new album -AS- I play Skyrim.
If it wasn’t so old I would write an epic review of Dragon Age: Origins. Well, that and I am supposed to be playtesting and reviewing something else right now and…let’s just move along.
And no, the rumors that I have been obsessively playing DA:O for days now are greatly exaggerated. I also did laundry and sorted my beading tacklebox.
Seriously, once in a while I just need a few days away from tech and the internet to decompress. This time the baby came down with a cold right after I took a few days off and until she was better even following Twitter was problematic.
The joy I experience when drinking coffee out of a cup that says ‘Name Your Poison’ cannot adequately be expressed in mere words.
I gave up on the diamond/military pushups and compromised on something between those and the wide spread ones I had been doing. I don’t know if I need more muscle or if it is the old injury but no matter how careful I am the diamond ones kill my shoulder. I am just doing the 100 challenge over with the closer hands and a lower angle to the floor. As long as I stop on the last set when I start to feel the burn in my shoulder I can avoid the awful pain I had previously.
Sigh…I need a giant sign that hovers over my head and says, “I AM WORKING - IF YOU AREN’T BLEEDING, CHOKING OR ON FIRE - DO - NOT - PESTER ME!”
Okay, I give up. Apparently I need to go save the world. Or something… Here’s Vivs’ new song – Taxi Man.

We have just begun watching the river run…
Waiting for the coffee to percolate up into my brain. I would swear my chalkboard says “Edwin McCain will Spin Silk for HGTV”. Unless I have fallen into an alternate universe that cannot be right. Just a sec.
Ah, okay. It actually says ‘Edwin McCain review’ (he has a new release) and ‘Check SHR (Suburban Home Records) for HGWT (Have Gun Will Travel) preorder. Perhaps I could use a little more coffee.
Okay, still no HGWT preorder available. Until it is (or you catch the band in concert) pop over to ninebullets.net and download a free track off their new album. While there, check out last night’s ninebullets radio show.
It was kind of like a Frank Lloyd Wright house. Where you walk through a tiny little entry foyer with a low ceiling and narrow walls, then you step into the wide open spaces of the house itself. Hmmm. The analogy probably only makes sense if you are claustrophobic. Basically, the first minutes of the radio show are incredibly sad and depressing, then the rest of the show pretty much rocks with awesome.
I set my coffee down and now I can’t find it. Just a minute. Bleah, I found my cup but the coffee was cold.
New Gypsy and the Wolf demo. A little rough but pretty good. Have a listen for yourselves.
I have a new article over on GamingHUD. The Golden Perch Inn is the second installment in my four-part Elder Scrolls Oblivion Player House Mods series. I know, I know. Earlier I said three parts but it ended up being four. While you are over there, check out the articles and reviews of Deus Ex and Deus Ex:Human Revolution.
Today is my mom’s birthday. (Happy Birthday Mom!!!!) This year I think I’ll go with Phineas and Ferb for the birthday song.

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]
Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass). I had [...]
So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
