Frank Turner - The Way I Tend To Be

anime

I’m so proud I just gotta brag, my baby sure can shag…

Packing for the beach!!!  Not that there is actually that much to pack since it’s you know, the beach.

*Looks around the site*

Whoa…where did you all come from?  Uh, hi to all the new blog people.  Glad to see you…all of you…how is everyone able to fit in…never mind – moving along.

Changing the Jukebox out for August.  Somehow it ended up a little country-heavy.  I am still trying to figure out how that happened.   I put in some stuff for me, some stuff for you guys and some new stuff we can try out together.  I had to do the jukebox in two parts to get all the songs I wanted.  The Grooveshark player lists the song titles but to change songs on the ReverbNation player you need to click the forward button.

Oh, cool.  Bob Margolin and Mac Arnold will be at Blue Root Jam.  Say, does anyone else do the thing where you read or hear Bob Margolin and your brain immediately yells, steady rollin’?  Like every single time and it gets a little…er…that’s just me isn’t it.  Never mind – moving along.

The ‘Bit drew a couple of cool chibis for me.  Er, chibis of me, for me.  Kit-chibis I suppose.  Is it chibi or chibis?  Hang a sec.  Whoa…grammar wars.  The plural of chibi depends on whether it is used as a noun or an adjective.  Or possibly what language you are using.  Right…Let’s go with ‘chibis’ and back away from those discussions very slowly.

Anyway, I have one in the sidebar and smaller ones over on twitter and other online sites so I decided to pop the full size on in the post.  I don’t actually spend any time standing that way; the ‘Bit just hates to draw hands.  Sadly, I am not as cute as my chibi but then, who is?

I keep getting sidetracked.  We will be on vacation in the Outer Banks next week.  The girls and I have never been to the Carolina beaches so we are looking forward to being out on an island.  I loaded my phone down with new music and am hoping to get a few reviews out but it is highly possible the posts next week will consist of “oh look…beach”  “more beach” “even more beach” and so on.  Fair warning.

All right until the rising sun…

From io9 – Annalee Newitz at Comic Con (where I am not) watching a preview episode of Supernatural the Animated Series.

Sam and Dean work nicely, though there’s a lot more crying and hugging in the anime than the live action show, if you can believe that. Dean does a lot of emo hunching and shaking and sobbing, while Sam tells us how he feels with his anime hair rather than his forehead.

I have only seen the trailer and I am already in love with Sam’s emo-anime hair.  Dean however, needs a little stubble.  This trailer is in Japanese but the series will be in English, (here) with Dean and Sam voiced by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

Supernatural the Animated Series will be available on DVD in the US on July 26th.

Don’t lose your grip…

Took the day off.

Kit’s Awesome Vid of the Day (Off) – Eye of the Tiger

*this amv contains scenes of violence, lots of anime blood and excessive emo-ness*

Music by Survivor – avi by wiikid0001  - scenes from the anime ‘Bleach

Okay, Bleach is so convoluted I would need an entire blog to get everyone up to speed so we will do it this way.  Ichigo Kurosaki is the guy with orange hair.  Consider him the ‘Rocky’ of the story.  Byakuya Kuchiki, the dark haired guy, is the Apollo Creed of the story and they are fighting for the life of Byakuya’s sister Rukia, rather than for the championship.

Once again it’s time for — Linkspam!

The Cat Head website has a new look.  It is easier to navigate and looks pretty cool.

Suburban Home Records is celebrating their 15th anniversary.

Highway History with a list of songs about roads;)   Don’t look at me like that.  How can anyone -not- need a list of songs about roads.

I thought I had put the free classical music link  up but I must have missed it when I did the previous linkspam.  Classical Connect lets you listen, embed songs, upload your own versions and create playlists of your favorite pieces.

It would be a ‘road song’…if he actually ever got on a road.

Over hill and highway the banana buggies go…

When I was a kid and cable tv was shiny and new, The Banana Splits played on a station from Fort Worth, Texas every afternoon at 4pm.  Among the songs, skits and cartoons was an adventure serial called Danger Island.  I would rush to get my homework done so I wouldn’t miss an episode.

(The ‘Bit’s version of the adventure serial is an imported anime called “Bleach“.  Similar format, but with Tivo we record the program so she doesn’t panic if she misses an episode.)

This is not anything new.  Books and magazines were often printed as serials with the readers left on a cliffhanger after each installment.  Many radio shows were done this way as well.

A couple of weeks ago I found the ultimate online serial.  Or rather, online serial service.  Daily Lit is a free online reading service where you can get a few minutes of a novel in your email every day.  They have different excerpt sizes so you can tailor the service to your time needs.  I gave it a try and I really like it.  The reading is easy to fit into a busy day and if I miss checking email for a day or two the reading amount is still small enough for me to handle.  I am reading Norton’s Time Traders, but they have many genres of books available.

Checking out the site, they also have a blog, writing contests and other offers like a free poem a day.  They also have a paid subscription service for newer releases but I haven’t tested it.

I’m the leader of the clan, you can tell by the headband…

From the Tor/Forge Books newsletter:

Afro Samurai Vol 1  by Takashi Okazaki

”In the bleak world of the swordsman, it is said that he who becomes the Number 1 samurai shall rule the world. And only Number 2 is allowed to challenge Number 1. Afro Samurai has assumed the mantle of Number 2, seeking vengeance against Number1, a gunman who killed his father years ago. But assassins lurk at every corner, seeking to rob Afro Samurai of the title of Number 2. Can Afro survive long enough to exact his revenge?”

Afro Samurai goes on sale Sept 2nd, 2008 but you can pre-order copies from Tor.

  • Blurred…
    February 12, 2013 | 4:06 pm

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]

  • Arc & Stones…

Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass).  I had [...]

  • Telegraph Taboo…
    January 21, 2013 | 8:45 am

So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
