Savages - She Will

blogging

L-o-l-a Lola…

So I was massively sleep-deprived. Then I was ill. There were no actual broken bones but I did cough hard enough to pull muscles. Then I was massively sleep-deprived again. Then I looked up and two months had passed since I blogged or had an online presence.

In between trips to the crossroads in desperate search for someone willing to trade sleep for my soul (I had no luck) and coughing I did some online reading while I was ill. As a result I have a few comments.

For those of you that write Avengers fanfic (oh don’t even) Brooklyn is not some small town Steve (Rogers) leaves to go to the big city of New York. Brooklyn IS in New York City. New York City is divided into five boroughs (think of them as ginormous neighborhoods). Brooklyn has the most people (around 2.5 million) and nearly the most area.  As always writers, Google is your research friend.

Also, for the serious news bloggers out there – please don’t cite The Onion as a serious news source…just - please – don’t.

The new preview trailer for Shield is out.  I love that Coulson named his car.

My heart is dancin’ to a November tune…

It’s November and I’ll be attempting NaBloPoMo again. We’ll be in Alabama for part of the month so i’ll be trying out mobile posting and searching for the One True WiFi spot in addition to the normal blog stuff. I will also be linking the blog post list over at BlogHer.

I was thinking of doing another free music friday but with a game review and an EP review in line for tomorrow I decided to pop the free stuff up today. We can call it Thirst for Music Thursday.

What? Oh shoo, just go listen and download.

The Buffalo Killers celebrate their upcoming tour by offering a shiny new track for free download:

I downloaded a couple of new tracks off Soundcloud:

I need to go finish my grocery list. Yes, I do know how boring that sounds but I am out of coffee (the rumors I am in physical pain over this are possibly true) and well, out of coffee.

For something a little more fun than shopping, check out Boston band Mean Creek and their vid Young and Wild:

To see what goes on Halloween night…

And we are live!

Halloween 2012 is officially underway at our house. Kahuna just left with the girls and I’ve had my first band of trick-or-treaters. Steve (my Captain America coffee cup) and I were going to give away candy here but I can’t find him.

Yes, yes I am giving away chocolate candy eyeballs.

6:47 – Huh, I pictured Batman a lot taller…

6:52 – There are Hershey bars in the candy bowl…

Listening to Haley Bowery and the ManimalsHalloweenCheck out the track over on their Bandcamp page.

7:08 – okay, Jason is not as creepy when he is under five feet tall…

7:14 – Oh, how cute..a little bitty pirate. And a pirate princess…

7:20 – The ‘Bit has wandered in claiming sore feet. Sigh, when that wins out over candy you know they are growing up.

7:26 – Huh, a ninja pirate…

From Jack Moore - @Jack_Moore7 – “Love how neighbours try out do each other on Halloween. Soon they’ll be putting severed heads on spikes tower of London style…”

7:31 – Kahuna and Scooter the firefly fairy (sigh, the little cat costume was so cute but she wouldn’t wear it) returned home with a full pumpkin.  Ohh, a frosty coupon, lots of chocolate, lots of gum that will go into the ‘Bits bag, pretzels…wait, who gives away pretzels for Halloween?

7:38 – Pretzel mystery solved. They are neat little bat and pumpkin shaped pretzels. Oh, Oh SCORE! Scooter has a gummy eyeball!

7:41 – Whoa, Skittles as far as the eye can see. We will be tasting the rainbow for days.

7:46 – Alas, my candy is gone. All I have left are two lonely little eyeballs and a jolly rancher.

7:52 – Okay, candy sorting and eating have commenced.

I’ll sign off with a little Halloween tune from Have Gun Will Travel called

It’s just a restless feeling by my side…

I sometimes think I need a graphic for the sidebar that says “Not dead…Back eventually…”

I have a mountain of email and a mountain of music piled up - I will be working on both of those over the next couple of days. I might even venture out of the house this weekend.  I need to pick up a new wireless mouse (mine is gasping its’ last breath as a type this) and every time I open gmail I foresee an urgent coffee resupply run.

Oh Arkansas…maybe you should switch to hockey for this season. You and Auburn could form a new league.

For those that read the blog on a feed, the featured vid is Dislocated Boy off the new Joe Bonamassa release, Driving Towards the Daylight.

The neighbor across the street staggered out earlier this morning, his shirt on inside out, and drove somewhere. I (of course) laughed and mocked him in my head. He just came back with a big box of donuts. Karma is so mean.

Okay, gotta make fresh coffee.

And the way you wear your hair is fine…

This is -my- CD Don't you wish you had one?

I was going to review the new-ish Arliss Nancy release, Simple Machines, weeks ago but I got busy and sidetracked and now that it has been out for a while it seems a little late to toss my thoughts in the ring.

Simple Machines is darker and more mature than their previous stuff. The songwriting is better and the music a little sharper. While it doesn’t have the ‘smash you up against the wall while waves and waves of music kind of pound you to crescendo’ feeling (don’t go there people) of Truckstop Roses, it does dig in under your skin and twist a little.

I mean, I do like it. Truckstop Roses will probably always be my favorite but this is still good music.

This could be YOUR new CD!

Okay, this isn’t an actual review/review but I do have to mention how gorgeous Lizzie Huffman sounds on The Crease. Also, is Front Seat kind of a dark-er sequel to Thunder Road?

Anyway, when I bought Simple Machines, Virgil from Suburban Home was doing a two-for-one deal. Basically you could get two copies for ten bucks. Sort of a ‘one to listen, one to give to a friend’ kind of thing.

This leaves me with an only one possible choice. I must give my extra copy away so the rest of the world can hear the awesome of Arliss Nancy.

All you need to do is leave a note in the comment section. Say Hi, tell me your favorite Simple Machines track, or jump up and down yelling about how much you want the CD. Whatever rocks your socks.

This Saturday I’ll toss all the posts in a hat…or bowl…or something and pull one out as the winner. I’ll announce it in the Week in Blog post and then get the info to mail it to the winner.

Till we get to Saturday you all can follow the band on Twitter @ArlissNancy, check out their facebook page, or read the Ninebullets review of the album.

Iron Man lives again…

Sooo…Robert Downey, Jr is standing approximately two (2) hours away from where I am sitting at this very moment. Okay, okay – I assume he is standing. He could be sitting or running or banging on prop movie metal with a prop movie hammer. The point is…uh, I know had a point.

YES, the point is if I had a south facing window I could stare directly at the movie sets. I can’t see them of course (refers back to the two hours away statement) but that doesn’t change the fact that they are there.

Iron Man 3 is filming in Wilmington, NC well…right now.  Sigh. I knew the whole “if I can’t go to Gulf Shores for vacation I don’t want to go to the beach at all” thing would backfire on me.

Huh…Kahuna popped in for lunch and according to his phone compass (I know, right – but I love him anyway) our big wall-o-windows faces SE so I actually can stand in the sunroom and look SOUTH to Wilmington!

Hey RDJ, I am watching you!

Er…that came out way more creepy and stalker-y than I intended. Great…now if I ever accidently run into him at the market while on an emergency goldfish cracker run I’ll feel all awkward and weird. Not awkward enough to let him have the last bag of goldfish, but still…weird.

Most guys have cars...Stark has flying armors.

I wish we had a little more info on the villain or villains. I am cool with pretty much anyone except the Living Armor ’cause that storyline creeps me out. I also wish Marvel would release more pics and such but they like to relay info on their movies a drop at a time.

  • Blurred…
    February 12, 2013 | 4:06 pm

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]

  • Arc & Stones…
    February 11, 2013 | 4:53 am

Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass).  I had [...]

  • Telegraph Taboo…
    January 21, 2013 | 8:45 am

So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
