blogging
So not the week in music blogs…
I have no music blogs this week. I’ve been super busy with other stuff and have barely been online, much less had time to read all the music blog posts.
I had to order the Dad-in-Law’s gift for Father’s Day from Amazon UK since it doesn’t release in the US till the 19th. Now I hope the shipping is correct and it gets here in time. He is going to join us for vacation in a couple of weeks so it needs to arrive before we leave.
I have listened to a lot of music this week so I have several reviews in the works. I am saving one for vacation so the blog isn’t an endless stream of “look-a pretty tree” pictures while we are on the road.
This is the video preview of the new Skyrim DLC DawnGuard. Mounted combat, crossbows, new armor and lots of other stuff. The vid is a little gory so if that isn’t your thing you may want to skip it.
Aghh. I need more coffee.

I am not Iron Man…
Well, I saw the UPS truck and was all “YES!!! My IRON MAN LAMP IS HERE!!!
But it wasn’t. Behold my bum-med-ness. Scooter and I are drowning our sorrows in chocolate soy milk and popcorn while we watch the new Spiderman movie preview. Which I will share here in a minute. After I…clarify a few things.
I am not a dude. Seriously, not. a. dude. You would think the descriptions on the blog of my epic frankenstein-scar-of-baby-having would clue people in but apparently, not so much.
I do not want to see pictures of any of you all in your underwear. I am not telling you not to take the pics ’cause I would never harsh anyone’s “hey, look at me rockin’ my jockeys” vibe — just PLEASE don’t send them or link them to me.
I will not put your ad up on the blog. Stop asking. Well, unless you are the awesome Daniel Logan and want me to toss a thing up about your gear biz ’cause I would be super willing to do that in exchange for a few pictures of Jack‘s cat.
Okay, enough grumbling. Have a movie preview vid:

Like the sun we will live to rise…
I was tempted to call my musicdiary2012 entry for May 9, 2012 ‘sounds what I grooved on’ but the impulse passed. As most of my listening Wednesday was actually music video watching…here come the vids.
Kit’s Awesome Vid of Day – Soundgarden (and The Avengers) – Live to Rise
I have been playing Joe Bonamassa in an attempt to catch up. He records a lot and I am always a little behind on his releases. Broke out some Ramones, some Young Electrics, more Record Company and a new (to me) band called Garfunkel and Oates (NSFW but so, so very funny) that Kahuna found while stalking reading Patrick Rothfuss’ blog. I am liking the new Joe Walsh and have this:
Our Little Einsteins classical piece of the day (snerk) was The Wedding Day at Troldhaugen by Grieg. I have always liked this piece and not just because Edvard had really cool hair.
The ‘put Scooter to sleep’ list is short today. She went down pretty fast last night so only a few songs to list:
Can’t Find My Way Home – Blind Faith
Heart of Gold – Neil Young
The Lion Sleeps Tonight – The Tokens
Ships in a Bottle – Butch Walker
Break Me – Steve Carlson
Summer Breeze – Seals and Crofts
That is pretty much it for me today. Got an article and a review to finish so shoo…go watch the vids.

Turn the record over…
I would like to go back to bed and start today over. Like, maybe tomorrow.
GamingHUD has a staff position open for a Community and PR person. Dean is a great guy to work with and Gaminghud is just a cool site.
I have a lot of new tracks up on the jukebox and a few more to add over the next couple of days. Scooter and I were going to hit the Farmer’s Market this morning but due to a combination of rain and both of us feeling bleh I decided to go Saturday instead.
Here is my music log for May 8, 2012:
Yesterday was busy so my music listening was sporadic and all over the map. I ran thru part of Seven, the new release from Viv and the Revival while I worked on my review, played The Record Company for all my up-and-moving-around stuff and braved iTunes to preview and pick up 45 by The Gaslight Anthem.
Also played some new The Carpels, Amends and Right Away, Great Captain. Our classical thing for the day was Water Music by Handel.
And finally, the small section of Scooter’s ‘Go to Sleep’ Playlist we listened to last night -
I’ll Play for You – Seals and Crofts
I’m No Angel – Gregg Allman
Ordinary World – Duran Duran
Tuesday’s Gone – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Heroes or Ghosts – The Coronas
Hush – Deep Purple
I Can Hear Music – She and Him
Hallelujah – Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses
Yes, I have songs on the go to sleep list that make no sense (Hush for one) but they make her fall asleep so they stay.

Bound to battle grim and gory…
Nick Southall from Sick Mouthy is keeping a music diary this week:
Music Diary 2012 is an attempt to document, over the course of one week, how we listen to music: when we listen, where we listen, who we’re with when we listen, and how we choose what we listen to. Anyone is welcome to join in, as long as you would ordinarily be listening to music in that week or any other week; from music journalists to musicians to serious music geeks and casual music fans…”
I’ve decided to document the stuff I listen to on an after the day basis. So for May 7, 2012 my list looks like this -
Mostly a lot of Michael Burks. I picked up Iron Man from eMusic back when I had a subscription but I thought he sounded even better recorded live in some videos I have.
There was also a lot of Bizet in the afternoon as Scooter is a Little Einsteins fan. The March of the Toreadors from Carmen to be precise.
I also listened to the Skyrim soundtrack while I played. In anticipation of the new DLC, I have been trying to finish up any quests I missed along the way. I may do an expanded post on Skyrim sometime this week to talk about some of the recent changes and bug fixes as well as how the game plays six months after release.
Finally, The Arcadian Kicks shared a new song by The Problems so I gave it a ‘spin’.

Waiting on a rocket to Mars…
Ack…so so much to do today. This is going to be more like a fly-by than a post but here goes.
The Fender Music Foundation is hosting a benefit concert on StageIT -
the event will take place on Thursday, April 26, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Proceeds to The Fender Music Foundation will support the organization’s mission to provide musical instruments to music programs in need across the United States. Both signed and unsigned musicians are invited to participate to receive exposure and prizes (including a year’s supply of Heineken) in appreciation for their support of music education…”
AutopsyIV from Ninebullets.net and the awesome Ninebullets radio show needs our help.
It’s marathon time for WMNF and Ninebullets Radio and that means I am asking y’all to show a little support for the radio show. I am being asked to raise 1600 dollars tomorrow night and I’d love to get a head start on it. So, if you like the music I play, like that there is a show on the air that plays these bands, appreciate the work that goes into getting unreleased songs for the show, appreciate that there is a radio station that let’s someone like me on the air…..whatever the reason. Maybe you’re a band we play on the show or we’ve supported via Kickstarter over the last couple of years….whatever it is….Ninebullets Radio needs your support during this funds drive…”
36 days to go in Cassie Taylor’s Kickstarter project -
My name is Cassie Taylor and I’m a 25 year old singer/songwriter/foot stomping/blues women with a post college budget. Yes, I have had extraordinary opportunities to tour around the world, played with first class musicians, I serve on Board of Directors of the Blues Foundation, walked the red carpet in LA, and meet all sorts of wonderful friends and fans in the process. I am a full time, hustlin’ musician but unfortunately that dosn’t always amount to cash flow…”
Okay, running now.

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]
Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass). I had [...]
So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
