Wish that I was on old Rocky Top…
So about a week and a half ago I started back working out. I knew it would be rough but sheesh, even my toes and hair ache. I’m doing the 100 pushups challenge again. On week 2, day 2, column 1. I’m also seriously considering just snagging a brace for my knee and doing couch to 5K. I’ll let you all know if I survive.
Still going through emails and Twitter stuff, although I finally put the app for Twitter on my tablet. I will get to all the music and videos you guys have sent me and get it all up on the blog in one form or another.
My signed Doc Dailey and the Magnolia Devil album from their Kickstarter campaign came in last week. They also send loads of cool stuff like a sticker and booklet. As soon as I get pictures of it all I’ll put the review up.
I have Rocky Top stuck in my head today. The Osborne Brothers version to be precise.
What’s that? You all want to hear it too?

Farce the Music listed their top 75 albums of 2012.
Easy Street Records blogged about the closing of their Queen Anne (Seattle) area record store. (- thanks Penny)
Rune from Ninebullets.net listed his favorite albums of 2012 while AutopsyIV spun out another amazing Ninebullets Radio Broadcast.

Finally, from Noisetrade.com, Mason Jar Music presented The Storm is Passing Over – A Hurricane Sandy Benefit album from Mason Jar Music and Friends.
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Brooklyn-based collective Mason Jar Music has assembled an all-star collection of indie-folk artists to create The Storm is Passing Over, a benefit album of fifteen classic American storm songs. Donations exchanged for these recordings will go directly to support ongoing relief work in New York City and the tri-state area.”
Lots of great songs on this. I am partial to the Memphis Minnie and Joe McCoy version of ‘When the Levee Breaks’ but Micheal Daves does a nice job on his rendition. ‘The Storms are on the Ocean’ by Aoife O’Donovan is beautiful and probably my favorite of the group. I also love ‘Lonesome River’ by Roseanne Cash (love, love her arrangment on this) and Tift Merritt’s ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’.
The album is available to download for free but a tip jar has been set up on the webpage and all tips will go to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

The Week in Music…Blogs – Jan 21 to Jan 27, 2012
Early last week Bryan Childs from ninebullets.net wrote a blog entry called Pimping Other People’s Podcasts. It was sort of a ‘we all love doing this, let’s help each other out’ thing.
So I decided to post links to some of the great music blogs and media I read this week, sort of like a week in music recap only with less Kurt Loder and more check out this band review.

Michael Barwise interviewed Dylan Williams of The Carpels.
The Carpels were finally able to get the video for their new single, ‘Bears‘ viewable in the US.
Rachel over on Adobe and Teardrops (such a cool blog name) reviewed The Creak and provided a link to download their free album Fool’s Gold.
Autopsy4 previewed a single off the new Arliss Nancy in a blog entry and then previewed another during the Thursday night ninebullets radio show.
Iaan Hughes waxed poetic about Harley Allen over on his blog, the Real Mr. Heartache.
Jake Smith filming in Death Valley
Jake Smith (The White Buffalo) was in Death Valley last week filming a video for his upcoming release, Once Upon a Time in the West and was nice enough to share this image from the shoot.
I ranted about integrity and responsibility in music journalism after reading some reviews of We Take Care of Our Own, the first track from Springsteen’s upcoming release, Wrecking Ball.
Damien interviewed Virgil Dickerson and previewed a track from the upcoming Arliss Nancy release, Simple Machines on his Mostly Harmless podcast.
Yes, yes I do have a ‘thing’ for Arliss Nancy. Why do people keep asking me that?
