Tell that story, pain and glory…
Briefly coming out of my move-induced hiatus to post a couple things.
One is the list of blues and music festivals for July. I know I missed a few but the list still seems short. Is the lack from the slow economy or the unrelenting heat?
The other is just a little signal boost for the benefit concert Jimmy Buffett is putting on Sunday July 11th in Gulf Shores to help tourism and the folks on the Gulf Coast. The concert was scheduled for July 1st but the weather did not cooperate. (hey, it’s hurricane season) Jimmy, Sonny Landreth and the Zac Brown Band will perform along with several other bands.
Tickets are free, either from ticketmaster or you can get them from merchants in the area. You can purchase concert t-shirts to help out but just being there and spending a little money on food and lodging will help tremendously. Check out the Margaritaville site or the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce website for more information.

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]
Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass). I had [...]
So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
Glad to see your post. I’ve been spending most lurking time around The Oil Drum rather than blog reading, but I suspect that’s mostly a way to ease anxiety about what’s going on.
Heard good things about the concert, with the usual amount of grumpiness that surrounds such things. I’ve been reading the blog of a Gulf Shores activist with the handle of Tinfoilhatguy – interesting look into what it’s like to deal with the cleanup from an “on the ground” perspective.
Hope all is well, and that this latest tropical critter doesn’t head your way – or your mom’s. Has your move happened yet? Still coming up? Never a dull moment, huh?
You need to compile a list of tunes to accompany the Oilocalypse – more music, fewer press conferences is my prescription for myself
Good morning Linda,
We are in our new place, the furniture made it here as well and I only have a few..okay, slightly more than a few boxes left to unpack.
Best of all – we have internet again!
Hope you are keeping cool in the heat wave.
