Frank Turner - The Way I Tend To Be

And the way you wear your hair is fine…

This is -my- CD Don't you wish you had one?

I was going to review the new-ish Arliss Nancy release, Simple Machines, weeks ago but I got busy and sidetracked and now that it has been out for a while it seems a little late to toss my thoughts in the ring.

Simple Machines is darker and more mature than their previous stuff. The songwriting is better and the music a little sharper. While it doesn’t have the ‘smash you up against the wall while waves and waves of music kind of pound you to crescendo’ feeling (don’t go there people) of Truckstop Roses, it does dig in under your skin and twist a little.

I mean, I do like it. Truckstop Roses will probably always be my favorite but this is still good music.

This could be YOUR new CD!

Okay, this isn’t an actual review/review but I do have to mention how gorgeous Lizzie Huffman sounds on The Crease. Also, is Front Seat kind of a dark-er sequel to Thunder Road?

Anyway, when I bought Simple Machines, Virgil from Suburban Home was doing a two-for-one deal. Basically you could get two copies for ten bucks. Sort of a ‘one to listen, one to give to a friend’ kind of thing.

This leaves me with an only one possible choice. I must give my extra copy away so the rest of the world can hear the awesome of Arliss Nancy.

All you need to do is leave a note in the comment section. Say Hi, tell me your favorite Simple Machines track, or jump up and down yelling about how much you want the CD. Whatever rocks your socks.

This Saturday I’ll toss all the posts in a hat…or bowl…or something and pull one out as the winner. I’ll announce it in the Week in Blog post and then get the info to mail it to the winner.

Till we get to Saturday you all can follow the band on Twitter @ArlissNancy, check out their facebook page, or read the Ninebullets review of the album.

  • Blurred…

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]

  • Arc & Stones…

Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass).  I had [...]

  • Telegraph Taboo…

So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
