I’m a jazz baby, little jazz baby, that’s me…
Thursday it was rainy and grey. Scooter was fussy (two molars coming in-sigh) and I was still tired from her teething and my cold. So I composed my post while we listened to some great jazz on NPR.
Jazz is like the musical version of orajel for babies. Seriously, the only other music that even comes close is Patsy Cline. I have no qualms about dosing my kid with either of them.
Then I tried to save the post and all kinds of buggy badness ensued. I spent the rest of the day back and forth with tech support but the problem only shows up for me. Kind of like the car noise that drives you insane but the mechanic never hears. Finally today they have an idea of the problem so with a clean sheet of paper and freshly sharpened pencils in hand, (metaphorically speaking) I will give it another try.
Scooter and I were listening to a wonderful program on the NPR website called Take Five:A Weekly Jazz Sampler. The program profiles and provides streaming audio for five different jazz songs each week. This week they brought out their picks for best jazz of 2009 – so far. We liked all the selections but Scooter’s favorite was Dancin’ 4 Chicken by Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, while I loved ‘Waves‘ by Miles Okazaki.

(yeah, it’s working!)
I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]
Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass). I had [...]
So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
