Time has a way of putting things in place…

Okay, I have moved my album review for this week to what I am really hoping is Friday. Scooter has flipped days and nights again and if Kahuna didn’t tell me what day it was I would be completely lost.

A few old and a few new tracks in the jukebox this week. I’m still annoyed the Takers broke up and no one told me. Then Devon and Chad went and made a new band (Snakehealers) and again no one told me.

The Bart Walker BandLeft Turn, SnakehealersRoadsideJoshua Black WilkinsLate Night Talks, The Delta RoutineOh, NoTyler Walker BandMaybe We Were Wrong, and some Eden Burning with If You Want Me ’cause coffee alone is just not enough this morning.

The featured vid this week is Life in Film with their new release Cold Wire . You can check out more stuff from the band on their Facebook page or follow them on Twitter @lifeinfilm.

I had these memories all around me so I wouldn’t be alone…

Ughhh…if I never see cake again it will be too soon. If we take out the part where I actually am a year older and don’t eat anymore cake, I had a great birthday. Kahuna made lasagna and got me this awesome Avengers card -

Yes, it’s in the microwave – it was cloudy and that was the only spot with enough light…

We we also watched the Avengers movie (again) and tried another new coffee. I made a pot of Donut Shop and it was pretty good. It pairs well (grin) with cake. I liked it much better than the kahlua flavored coffee. (In retrospect, buying coffee flavored coffee was probably not my smartest move)

Check out this new video from the Dropkick Murphys off their January 8, 2013 release Signed and Sealed in Blood.

My heart is dancin’ to a November tune…

It’s November and I’ll be attempting NaBloPoMo again. We’ll be in Alabama for part of the month so i’ll be trying out mobile posting and searching for the One True WiFi spot in addition to the normal blog stuff. I will also be linking the blog post list over at BlogHer.

I was thinking of doing another free music friday but with a game review and an EP review in line for tomorrow I decided to pop the free stuff up today. We can call it Thirst for Music Thursday.

What? Oh shoo, just go listen and download.

The Buffalo Killers celebrate their upcoming tour by offering a shiny new track for free download:

I downloaded a couple of new tracks off Soundcloud:

I need to go finish my grocery list. Yes, I do know how boring that sounds but I am out of coffee (the rumors I am in physical pain over this are possibly true) and well, out of coffee.

For something a little more fun than shopping, check out Boston band Mean Creek and their vid Young and Wild:

It’s just a restless feeling by my side…

I sometimes think I need a graphic for the sidebar that says “Not dead…Back eventually…”

I have a mountain of email and a mountain of music piled up - I will be working on both of those over the next couple of days. I might even venture out of the house this weekend.  I need to pick up a new wireless mouse (mine is gasping its’ last breath as a type this) and every time I open gmail I foresee an urgent coffee resupply run.

Oh Arkansas…maybe you should switch to hockey for this season. You and Auburn could form a new league.

For those that read the blog on a feed, the featured vid is Dislocated Boy off the new Joe Bonamassa release, Driving Towards the Daylight.

The neighbor across the street staggered out earlier this morning, his shirt on inside out, and drove somewhere. I (of course) laughed and mocked him in my head. He just came back with a big box of donuts. Karma is so mean.

Okay, gotta make fresh coffee.

Some things are different, some are the same…

We are out of salsa.

I even double-checked the fridge and pantry after I had my coffee, but still no salsa. This is distressing first thing in the morning since I am neither physically nor mentally capable of making homemade salsa before I eat. It’s like being caught in some horrible recursive salsa loop. I need to eat the salsa but I must make the salsa but I must eat the salsa before I can make…you all get the idea.

Great, now I want another cup of coffee.

So…One of the difficulties I have with practising is the physical mechanics of getting the guitar out of the case, going into the other room, tuning, etc.

My Martin resting on the hang ‘em high wall hanger.

By the time I get ready to play Scooter comes and interrupts me and I get nowhere. Then I have to pack the guitar away again. Last week I found a place called Hang ‘Em High. They sell multi-piece wall hangers for guitars so your baby doesn’t have to hang by the neck.

(not that neck hanging is terrible – we have a couple of guitars on the wall with just the neck hanger and they do fine – but for my Martin I wanted to be more careful)

Kahuna was nice enough to help me install the wall hanger in my office Saturday.

(and by help I mean do all the actual work while I held my guitar and made approving noises)

The wall hangers come in five finishes (I got the white one so it would blend into the wall and also so I could just paint over it when we decide on the wall color for the office) and Hang ‘Em High has specialized versions of the hangers for your acoustic or electric guitar. They also have a hanger if you want to mount your guitar completely vertically.

The hangers come with optional velvet (yeah, I know) covers for the padded bars. If your guitar has a nitro-cellulose (varnish/laquer) finish the normal padding can mar it. I wasn’t totally sure what mine is finished with but since Martins in general have a varnish-type finish I went ahead and ordered the covers just to be safe. You could also sew your own covers or snag a few toddler socks to cover the padding.

I like it. My guitar is right there when I want it and I will always be a fan of things so sturdy hydralic equipment is needed to remove them.

You can check out more guitar hangers and even watch a video over on the Hang ‘Em High website or like the company on their Facebook page.

The Week in Music…Blogs – May 19 to May 25, 2012

Grab your mugs and pull up a seat. The coffee is hot and there is plenty of music to read and enjoy this morning. Sending out a quick Happy Birthday to both my baby brother and my dad-in-law.

Michalis Limnios from Blues.gr interviewed Debbie Davis about her new album, After the Fall.

Terry Mullins from Blues Blast interviewed Bob Margolin.

indieLondon tossed up their ‘singles of the week’ including music from Rumer (cool little cover song btw), and The Coronas.

Seba Rashii Culture reviewed Closer to You by The Coronas. I’m not going to argue since Addicted to Progress is a great song – but it isn’t the best track on the album. (that would be Write to MeThough it does have a nice video.

Getting her punk on, Laura Snapes from Pitchfork interviewed Savages.

And over on NPR Music, Joel Rose talks Ramones, Joey Ramone and music, both old and soon to be released.

That’s it for me this morning.  I have an omelet to finish and a pool to lounge (can lounge be a verb?) around. As always, if you have a music post on your blog you would like me to add to list please send me a quick email (guitarkit at gmail dot com) or toss a comment below the post with your addy and I’ll add you to the post.

The Week in Music…Blogs – May 12 to May 18, 2012

So my coffeemaker DIED a horrible death yesterday and as @varnishgal so eloquently commented on Twitter - Yes, I was a resident of Suckville.

Yes, it looks like it’s leaning but I am too lazy busy to retake the photo.

However, after much inspecting of phone pics and email discussions the mighty Super-Kahuna picked a new coffeemaker up from the store right after work. And yes, after setting it up and running the water cycle-thing I did brew a pot and drink some.  Captain America approved this endeavor.

ATO Records is giving away a FREE Spring Sampler loaded with tracks from the Alabama Shakes, the White Rabbits, Lucero and many others.

Stewart Oksenhorn at the Aspen Times reviewed new releases from Theresa Andersson, Anders Osborne and Bill Frisell.

Chris from BrumNotes interviewed Jim Bob (Carter USM) about Jim’s new book, Driving Jarvis Ham, and his music.

Over on Adobe and Teardrops, Rachel reviewed The Life and Death of Warren Peacemaker by Scott Alan Simmons.

Justin Kantor from BC*blogcritics remembers Donna Summer.

On Ninebullets.net, AutopsyIV reviewed Nothing’s Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now by Justin Townes Earle.

The blog list is short this week as I have things to plant and a book review to finish. If I missed you and you have a music post you would like mentioned just drop a note in the comment section or send me a quick email and I’ll add you to the list.

- Kit

Persecute, you defy, execute, crucify, crucify…

I’ll make this short since I have an awesome vid of the day to upload and you know…dishes to wash.  It’s political so if that isn’t your thing you can skip to the video in the next post.

Dear National Organization for Marriage Hate Group:

Although in the past I have only been an occasional Starbucks customer, I have decided to frequent my local shop on a regular basis to help offset the loss of your 18,000 bigoted boycotters.

FYI – maybe if you all spent as much time on your own marriages as you do on trying to prevent others from marrying we might not be saddled with a 40-50% divorce rate in the US.  I won’t even get into how your behavior on this isssue is so counter to true Christian ideals as to be unrecognizable as such.  I guess the thrill of teaching your kids to hate is just too enticing to pass up.

Gee, aren’t you all so proud? Oh wait, isn’t excessive Pride the most serious of the…cough…right.

  • Blurred…
    February 12, 2013 | 4:06 pm

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]

  • Arc & Stones…
    February 11, 2013 | 4:53 am

Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass).  I had [...]

  • Telegraph Taboo…
    January 21, 2013 | 8:45 am

So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
