The Week in Music Blogs – June 23 to June 29, 2012

Tony Conley from Rock Guitar Daily reviewed Tilting, the upcoming (and really good) release from Johnny Hickman.

Josh Hathaway over on Blinded by Sound reviewed the new Norah Jones album, Little Broken Hearts and tossed a stream of the album up for listening.

Delarue from New York Music Daily reviewed the Haley Bowery and the Manimals/Hannah vs the Many concert at Webster Hall.

At Screamer Magazine, Richard Rosenthal interviewed Ron Young from Little Caesar.

Heading south to ninebullets.net territory, Romoesidvicious reviewed Nah, Death Ima Comin’ for You, the upcoming release from Michael Dean Damron, and streamed a preview track from the album. While you all are over there, check out the ninebullets radio show from this week. The show had tunes from Have Gun Will Travel, William Elliot Whitmore, Pawn Shop Saints and so many more good bands.

Rachel over at Adobe and Teardrops wrapped up Pride Month with her review of White Noise, the new EP from Sarah Walk. She also shared a link to download the EP for free or for a donation amount of your choice.

Also from the Adobe and Teardrops Facebook page, some Gary Clark, Jr.- Live from Bonnaroo -

Little Indie Blogs reviewed and provided a link to preview four songs from the Chapel Club upcoming release, Good Together.

The Steve Carlson / Jonah Dolan StageIt concert that had to be cancelled has been rescheduled for July 11th. Tickets are sold out now, but they usually release another bunch closer to show date.

Cameron Matthews over at Spinner previewed Hey Girl, a new single from Dig. Sow. Love. Grow., the upcoming (August 7th) album by the Buffalo Killers and offered it up as a free download.

Fire by Viv and the Revival is being used by NBC and Bud Light in their summer Olympics ads and promo spots.  You all can see the first video on the band’s website and catch more over the next month.

The Young Electrics only need a couple more votes and they will be performing at the Olympics as part of the Emerging Icons. Pop over and click on the little star to help them. Seriously, how many times are you going to have the chance to say, “I picked one of the bands that played the Olympics“?

To finish out the list, bluesman Peter Parcek tossed out another in his series, Unsung Heroes of the Blues Guitar. This entry focused on Kid Ramos.

And that is it for me. As always, if I missed your blog post just leave a comment with the addy or shoot me a quick email.

I’ll leave you all with a cool little live vid of Peter with Willie Hayes, Jesse Hayes and Kevin Harvey doing Let The Good Times Roll.

The Reverend Keith A Gordon compiled the Weekly Blues Music Report and included a link to a duet with Gary Clark, Jr and Shemekia Copeland.

Michael Barwise from Michael’s Music Madness picked his single of the week…and tossed in a few others for kicks. I still haven’t forgiven him for the Jagger thing.

As always, only a fraction of the cool music blogs out there. If I missed your review or post and you would like to be included please toss me an email or leave your post addy in the comment section and I’ll put your link up in the roundup.

That’s where I’ll rest my weary bones…

Oh man.  Enough coffee does not exist in the world to make today workable.

Did push ups last night.  I am at 80 – 100 counting all the sets and I’m starting to feel it a little the next morning.  If I do a regular set and then add a few military style at the beginning of the following sets I can get off three to five before I get any twinges of pain in my shoulder and have to switch back to regular.  It isn’t great but it is a start.

Scooter is really cranky and probably has a little cold.  She may have given it to me as well which would explain the ‘blah’ feeling.  I have several things I am working on but can’t get the focus to finish them.  Maybe while she naps.  Until then, have some links to neat things:

Jordan Richardson from Blinded by Sound reviews the new Gary Clark, Jr EP – The Bright Lights  - Oh man.  This is a great EP and Richardson is just so pumped to hear it.  I love his review nearly as much as the EP.  You all pop over and check it out.

romeosidvicious from Ninebullets.net reviews Field Songs  by William Elliott Whitmore.  He says it is “Essential Listening“.  Check out the review, listen the tracks and see if you all agree.

I thought there was more but, no, that is pretty much all my brain was holding.

Got to let your soul shine…

I found what I want for Christmas.

Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010 -

There was a shout out for the DVD in the last Derek Trucks/Susan Tedesci newsletter I received and just look at the line up.  In addition to Derek and Susan there are performances by Gary Clark Jr, Warren Haynes,  Jimmie Vaughn,  Hubert Sumlin, Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck, Robert Cray and so many, many others I briefly considered just reposting the lineup.  The Amazon listing also has a video of Clapton and Sonny Landreth playing together from the DVD.

You can preorder the DVD or wait for the release on Novemeber 9, 2010.

  • Blurred…
    February 12, 2013 | 4:06 pm

I have been trying to write the review for Blurred, by San Francisco singer/songwriter Alex Wise for a few months now but can’t seem to finish it. This is difficult for me to say but I get about halfway through the process and find myself so homesick I just can’t continue. The past few years have been full [...]

  • Arc & Stones…
    February 11, 2013 | 4:53 am

Now that Scooter is back sleeping nights I proclaim this ’dig myself out from under the mountain of un-reviewed music‘ week. Kicking off the week o’reviewing is Arc & Stones, the debut EP from Brooklyn band Arc & Stones. The guys are Dan Pellarin (vocals), Ben Cramer (guitar), Joe Doino (drums) and Eddy Bayes (bass).  I had [...]

  • Telegraph Taboo…
    January 21, 2013 | 8:45 am

So, I was in the mood for some blues and whoosh – blues appeared. Other people get coupons, bills and news updates in the mail while I get blues music. Cool new blues music in the form of the debut release Telegraph Taboo from the Chicago-based band Nick and the Ovorols. This is not a pretty album. The vocals on a few tracks [...]
