Just in time for halloween:
Bruce Springsteen has put a halloween song, A Night With the Jersey Devil, up on his website for free download. Head over to Bruce Springsteen and d/l a copy.
The new installment of Better Zombies through Physics is up at Tor.com. Tor also has a new short story (haven’t had a chance to read it yet) and some other halloween-themed goodies.
Finally The Hambone Art and Music Festival 2008 runs Oct 30th – Nov 2nd in Clarksdale, MS. For more information about times and events check out the website.
What I am reading (for free) this week -
Sea, Swallow Me by Craig Laurance Gidney. (the beach, the shore, the ocean…sideways and inside out)
The Shadow Postulates by Yoon Ha Lee. (sword dancing, seriously cool)
and, W3Schools – ’cause I am going to learn HTML- even if it kills me.
Stuff in my mailbox -
This is kind of a bizarre little story. It is sort of like Monty Python does math while listening to prog rock. Yes, I thought it was great and I will be hunting down some of his other stuff.
Booksamillion has coupons for me, including free coffee. They also want me to buy baby books (it was inevitable) and the new Bob Dylan CD, Tell Tale Signs. ( I never buy music without listening so once I track a preview down I will let you all know what I think of it.)
Ah, Kahuna is shredding his slow cooked pork for barbecue…I must go -help- him.
Domain names woes…sigh…tech support (at the domain place) was very helpful but now I have to wait 24-48 hours to tell if it actually fixed the problem. Why isn’t there just a button? You know, to forward domain press here…or to un-forward domain press…you get it.
(Yes, I am terribly spoiled. When I want to work on something I just have Kahuna make me a button.)
The next episode of Better Zombies through Physics is up on the Tor.com site.
Also on Tor, Bridget McGovern reviews the new Neil Gaimen book, The Graveyard Book.
Gaiman’s latest novel, The Graveyard Book, is an affectionate homage to Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book channeled through Webster’s morbid aesthetic. Aimed at both younger and adult readers alike
You can read the full review -here-
Also, I didn’t know Brad Meltzer’s Book of Lies was about Superman…sort of. Must put it on my Christmas list.
Tor.com is featuring the cartoon “Better Zombies Through Physics” by Jim Ottaviani and Sean Bieri.
Irma Thomas has a new CD Simply Grand . (As soon as I finish posting I must run off and go buy.)
Live Nation wants me to know The Black Keys and Los Lonely Boys are performing in Atlanta in October.
Gotta run. Kahuna’s parents are down for a few days to visit. (and hopefully help fix my car). Give Kahuna a computer and there is pretty much nothing he can’t do…Open the hood of a car however, and all bets are off. But his dad is pretty good with cars and already said he thought he found the problem earlier this morning. He went out to pick up a part and should be back in a few minutes.
